Woman, Time to Come Centre Stage

Globally, 1992 was the year which witnessed several high-profile advancements for women and girls. Case in point, the Nobel Peace Prize went to Lady Rigoberta Menchú in recognition of her work publicizing and promoting indigenous rights in her country Guatemala; Hanna Suchocka became the first female Prime Minister of Poland;

The ‘Equality Now’ movement was founded in New York by three women lawyers Jessica Neuwirth (of USA), Navanethem “Navi” Pillay (South African) and Feryal Gharahi (Iranian) whose globally renowned synergies catapulted women’s rights to the forefront of human rights.

To celebrate local Ugandan flavour of these achievements, this painting is an allegorical depiction of a beautiful woman musician leading an orchestra of indigenous male Ugandan musicians.
