The Luweero Triangle
This oil-on-board masterpiece was painted by Allan Birabi on the frontline amidst fierce fighting between then-government troops and rebel militia during a five year guerilla war that saw over five hundred thousand Ugandans lose their lives at the infamous "Luweero triangle". It is the only artistic representation of events captured on the battlefield under life-threatening conditions, the war through which Yoweri Museveni seized power in 1986 to date with the help of Libya’s Muammar Gadaffi.
The painting disappeared from Uganda under controversial circumstances and was found three decades later in England.
The “Luweero Triangle“ holds immeasurable heritage and political value.
